RecSports Student Development

As the third oldest collegiate recreation program in the nation, Oregon State University’s Department of Recreational Sports celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2016. Captured for an appreciation dinner, three student voices – a Sport Club President, a Lifeguard, and an Adventure Trip Leader - give testimony to the value of collegiate recreation and its contribution to student well-being and success.

Recreational Sports facilities and programs are primarily student-run.  Over 400 students are recruited to perform more than 20 different roles that serve the campus community. Professional training, administrative mentoring and regular reflection help leverage this environment to grow conscious work habits, civic awareness, and transferable skills that are highly valued by employers of college graduates.
